Attorney Joy E. Levy focuses on representing financially distressed companies, both in and out of court. In addition, Ms. Levy represents financial institutions, private lenders, trustees, and creditors committees in loan restructurings, workouts, and commercial litigation. In addition, Ms. Levy represents municipalities, including the County of Los Angeles. Ms. Levy’s experience encompasses an array of industries, including automotive, banking, construction, health care, real estate, tax and environmental.
Prior to joining Ezra Brutzkus Gubner LLP, Ms. Levy was a partner with Arnstein & Lehr LLP in Chicago, Illinois, in the firm's Bankruptcy, Creditors’ Rights and Restructuring group.

Education
Ms. Levy received her Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles, California in 2001 and her Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern California in Business Administration, with an emphasis on finance in 1998.
While in law school, Ms. Levy was a member of the Southwestern University Law Review and served on its editorial board. Ms. Levy also served as an extern for the Honorable Arthur L. Alarcón, in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Honorable Charles McCoy, of the Los Angeles Superior Court.
Recent Publications and Lectures
Ms. Levy is the author of “The Impact of Substantive Consolidation in Bankruptcy” which appeared in the September 2004 edition of the Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine. Ms. Levy co-authored the chapter entitled “Bankruptcy Considerations in Foreclosure” appearing in the 2005 Mortgage Foreclosure Practice Handbook published by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE), a chapter entitled “§ 305 Abstention” appearing in the 2006, 2007 and 2008 editions of the Norton Annual Survey of Bankruptcy Law; the chapter entitled “Bankruptcy Considerations” appearing in the 2007 Construction Law Manual published by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE); and an article entitled “Alternatives to Bankruptcy,” which appeared in the February 2008 edition of Norton’s Journal of Bankruptcy Law and Practice.
Ms. Levy was a panelist for the section entitled "Involuntary Bankruptcy: A Fresh Look at an Old Weapon," at the April 21, 2007 Spring Meeting hosted by the Commercial Law League of America.
Community Involvement
Ms. Levy served on the Associate Board of Ambassadors for the American Cancer Society’s Inaugural Discovery Ball in Chicago. In addition, since 2005 Ms. Levy has participated in the Lawyers in the Classroom Program, sponsored by the Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago, where practicing attorneys volunteer with area elementary classes to help students understand the U.S. Constitution and our legal system. Further, Ms. Levy served as a tutor for students studying for the February 2008 Illinois Bar Exam through the Minority Legal Education Resources (MLER) supplemental bar examination program.
Ms. Levy works MOSTE, an organization that pairs “at risk” middle school girls with professional women to provide mentoring to motivate and encourage them to remain in school and encourage the pursuit of higher education.
